Dielectric strength is used to assess the ability of a liquid to resist electrical penetration. This is especially important in transformer oils and other insulating fluids where electrical safety is paramount.

The oil is exposed to an increasing electric field between two electrodes, and the voltage at which penetration occurs is recorded. The measurement provides insight into the insulating ability of the liquid.

The customer receives a clear indication of whether the oil is still safe in use, or if it is contaminated by water, particles or degradation products and needs to be replaced.
