Water content measured as a percentage gives a coarser but effective indication of how much free water is present in the oil sample. This analysis is typically used in systems where there is a risk of water ingress in larger quantities, such as in gearboxes or hydraulic systems with leaks.
Using centrifugation or separation methods, the proportion of water that separates from the oil is measured. This provides a quick overview image.
The customer receives an assessment of whether the oil is still in usable condition, or whether immediate measures such as filtration, water separation or oil change are needed.
