Pour point indicates the lowest temperature at which the oil can still flow. It is a critical property for lubricants and fuels to be utilized in cold climates. Below this temperature, the oil can become too thick or solidify, which can hinder start-up and lubrication.
The analysis is carried out by stepwise cooling of the sample and observation of when the oil stops moving.
The customer receives an assessment of whether the oil is suitable for use in low temperatures and can plan for seasonal replacement or adjustment of oil type.
