According to Adresseavisen, it is strange that tens of thousands of oil samples are sent from all over the world to Rørvik to be analyzed. For us it's just logistics.
Annually, we receive and analyze over 30,000 oil samples, sent from customers all over the world to the laboratory with postal address 7900 Rørvik For the Trondheim-based reporting team that recently visited us, it was rather curious:
" Rørvik is located on the coast in Ytre Namdal, almost as far north in Trøndelag as it is possible to get, and as far west as there are people living. European Route 6 is 120 kilometers away. By car and ferry, Trondheim is six hours further south," the journalist writes in the report (behind a paywall).
– For us, our location is the most natural in the world, and no problem. For us, the logistics are so simple that we have recently launched collection of oil samples from the customer, whether the customer is here in Rørvik or in Lima, Peru, says general manager Helge Ingebrigtsvold.

He established Nolab in 2021, when the Norwegian State Railways (NSB) decided to close its own oil analysis department. At that time, NSB was the only customer. Today, only 4-5 percent of the 30,000 annual samples come from trains. The analyses still provide answers to whether the machinery is working or has faults, whether maintenance should be carried out or equipment needs to be replaced.
– Our services extend the life of equipment and are important for increased sustainability in many areas of society. We aim to become an important tool for businesses in the Nordic region. Initially, we have an ambition to perform 100,000 analyses here in Rørvik , says Ingebrigtsvold.
