Dielectric strength is used to assess a liquid's ability to withstand electrical breakdown. This is especially important in transformer oils and other insulating liquids where electrical safety is crucial.

The oil is exposed to an increasing electric field between two electrodes, and the voltage at which breakdown occurs is recorded. The measurement provides insight into the liquid's insulating ability.

The customer gets a clear indication of whether the oil is still safe to use, or whether it is contaminated with water, particles or degradation products and needs to be replaced.
