Calorific value (energy content) measures how much heat energy is released when a sample is burned – important for fuels, biofuels and alternative energy carriers.

The sample is burned in a calorimeter, and the heat released is recorded in MJ/kg or kWh/kg.

The result gives the customer a measure of the fuel's efficiency and economy, and is used for comparison between different energy sources or for checking product quality.
