Oxidation occurs when oil reacts with oxygen over time, often as a result of high operating temperatures and long service life. This leads to higher viscosity, acid formation and loss of lubricity.

We measure the level of oxidation with FTIR, where absorption of infrared light reveals specific oxidation products.

The result gives an indication of whether the oil still has good properties, or whether it has started to break down and should be replaced. Trend analyses over time provide even better insight.
